CMS seeks provider help to test HIE in Stage 2 Meaningful Use

CMS is putting out a request to eligible providers and hospitals to take part in a test program to measure provider capability to meet HIE requirements included in Stage 2 of meaningful use.
CMS seeks to designate multiple “test EHRs” for EPs, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) to use if they elect to pursue the second approach to meet Measure 3 of Stage 2’s transitions of care objective, according to an email update.
Designated test EHRs will be registered on a software system hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The NIST- hosted software system will randomly match an EP, eligible hospital, or CAH with a designated test EHR that is designed by a different EHR technology developer than theirs.
CMS and ONC strongly encourage the EHR technology developer community to participate in the program to become a CMS designated test EHR.
