Clearinghouse

Clearinghouse: An intermediary between healthcare providers (hospitals and physicians) and healthcare payers (insurance companies and government agencies).  Clearinghouses take claims and eligibility requests from providers and reformat those claims according to the specifications of the payers.  Clearinghouses then retransmit those claims to the healthcare providers. These intermediaries may be public or private.
