athenahealth Engineers Honored for Mentorship of Women in Health IT

The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) gave two athenahealth engineers awards to recognize their contributions as women in health IT.

The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) has recognized two engineers from EHR vendor athenahealth among its 2022 award winners for their commitment to supporting women in health IT.

Deepa Athrayil Kalathil, director of engineering at athenahealth, received an HBA Rising Star award. HBA Rising Stars are professionals from various healthcare industry sectors in the early stages of their careers.

HBA's corporate partner organizations designate Rising Star awards. The honor recognizes outstanding performance, commitment to excellence, and valuable contributions to their company's success.

Athrayil Kalathil leads several engineering teams on platform experience as part of the platform R&D organization. In her previous role, she was part of the ambulatory care management organization, where she led the clinical zone engineering teams working on the athenaPractice and athenaFlow platforms. She is based out of Bengaluru, India.

Athrayil Kalathil is also part of the EHR vendor's Women's Leadership Forum and leads the Women in Technology (WIT) subcommittee at athenahealth in Bengaluru. Through workshops, discussion forums, and fireside chats with women leaders, Athrayil Kalathil focuses on fostering a strong workplace community and culture.

Bela Labovitch, vice president of engineering for athenaCollector, received an HBA Luminary award.

HBA Luminaries are professionals with over 20 years of industry experience that demonstrate transformational leadership and actively mentor others.

Labovitch is a strong supporter of the EHR vendor's Women's Leadership Forum. She is also an active sponsor of Girls Who Code, an athenaGives nonprofit partner and mentorship program focused on closing the gender gap in technology.

Labovitch leads the vendor's Women in Technology program, which focuses on supporting and developing athenahealth's female health IT talent.

Under her leadership, athenahealth has significantly improved the athenaCollector engineering organization. athenaCollector is the vendor's comprehensive revenue cycle and practice management service. Over the last year, Labovitch began leading the EHR vendor's participation in industry standards efforts.

HBA also honored athenahealth with an Ambassador "Impact" Award, which celebrates the most outstanding organizational initiatives implemented by the Ambassador Programs in 2021.

Specifically, HBA recognized athenahealth for standardizing Employee Resource Group (ERG) programs.

Allyson Livingstone, executive director of diversity and inclusion at athenahealth, and Laura Jennings, manager of billing rules, led the initiative.

"We are proud of this recognition from HBA and congratulate Deepa and Bela for their accomplishments and work to support women in healthcare and technology," Bob Segert, chairman and chief executive officer of athenahealth, noted in a public statement.

"We share HBA's commitment to further the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare, and we look forward to continuing to make progress together," Segert added.
