Care orgs tap Microsoft generative AI for clinical documentation

Standford Medicine, WellSpan Health, and Providence are early adopters of DAX Copilot, a generative AI tool for clinical documentation from Microsoft.

Microsoft has partnered with several healthcare organizations to streamline workflows through the deployment of a generative AI tool that drafts clinical documentation.

The Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience Copilot (DAX Copilot) DAX Copilot automates clinical note drafting, allowing providers to focus on patients without the interference of manual documentation.

Stanford Medicine recently announced the enterprise-wide deployment of DAX Copilot to help mitigate clinician burnout and enhance patient care.

The implementation has improved efficiency, with 78 percent of Stanford Health Care clinicians in a preliminary survey reporting that the tool expedited clinical notetaking.

WellSpan Health has also adopted DAX Copilot for patient-physician interactions during exam room and telehealth visits. The health system’s decision to adopt DAX Copilot builds upon its use of Nuance solutions to streamline clinical workflows.

Microsoft is also working with Providence to improve care delivery through cloud solutions and the adoption of AI-based tools.

As part of its ongoing commitment to responsible AI principles, Microsoft has joined a consortium of healthcare leaders to announce the formation of the Trustworthy & Responsible AI Network (TRAIN). The network aims to share best practices and provide tools to measure outcomes associated with the implementation of AI in health.

As the technology-enabling partner for TRAIN, Microsoft is working with members that include:

  • AdventHealth
  • Advocate Health
  • Boston Children’s Hospital
  • Cleveland Clinic, Duke Health
