- Missouri-based Pershing Health system will go live with a new integrated Cerner EHR implementation and revenue cycle management solution across its hospitals and clinics.

The health system will leverage the Cerner CommunityWorks deployment model to support clinical decision-making for Pershing providers and boost care quality and access for patients throughout the rural community.

“We felt Cerner offered us an excellent option moving forward, to help provide not only better care but better information to our patients and between our clinics and hospital,” said Pershing Health System IT Director and Information Security Officer Scott Tomlinson.

“The ability for us to more efficiently connect patient information across our health system and share data with nearby providers will help our doctors make more informed care decisions and improve our patients’ experiences,” he continued.

Pershing will implement the Cerner Millenium health IT platform to support patients across the care continuum. The digital health record consolidates patient health data from different care settings to offer physicians and nurses an updated, comprehensive view of each patient’s health.

Providers at the rural health system can also utilize the Cerner system to engage in health data exchange with in-network providers and providers part of different health systems throughout the region.

“The goal is for Pershing Health System to provide high-quality care at a lower cost to the patient, while also reducing its own costs,” said Cerner CommunityWorks President Mitchell Clark.

Pershing will also utilize Cerner’s revenue cycle management solutions to improve health system financial operations and connect clinical and financial patient data. Linking patients’ clinical and financial data will allow staff to access all patient data in a single, unified record. Other revenue cycle solutions and services will help staff streamline patient billing.

“Having all of a person’s critical health information in one place is huge for smaller rural health systems in not only providing better care, but also being able to communicate this information to the patient and share it across all venues where that person seeks care,” said Clark.

CommunityWorks cloud technology is designed to support the specific needs of community, rural, and critical access hospitals (CAHs). The deployment model offers providers complete EHR and revenue cycle solutions at an affordable cost.

Pershing is a 25-bed, non-profit critical access care facility that includes an outpatient facility, lab, and radiology department as well as rehabilitation services, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and emergency services.

Cerner is also launching an EHR implementation project at Spectrum Health & Human Services in New York.

The agency will use Cerner’s Community Behavioral Health deployment model to improve the mental and behavioral health of individuals throughout western New York.

The health IT company’s Integrated deployment model is designed to meet the unique needs of organizations centered on delivering care for psychological disorders.

Spectrum patients will also have access to Cerner’s patient portal. Patients and their families can use the portal to view their personal health data, share self-reported data, schedule appointments, pay bills, and communicate with their care teams through online messaging.

The tailored package of health IT applications and services is designed to meet the needs of behavioral healthcare organizations at an affordable cost. The product package includes a specific set of tools geared toward treating mental disorders, substance abuse disorders, and other behavioral health needs.

Spectrum offers an array of behavioral health services in centralized, community-based locations throughout western New York. The agency also includes several satellite locations with primary care practices across Erie County.
