CommonWell adds 5 new members to interoperability initiative

The other health IT companies joining CommonWell are  ImageTrend, lifeIMAGE, Mana Health, and MediPortal. Additionally, HIMSS joins the consortium as a general member. All told, CommonWell members total 40 — 19 general, 14 contributor, and 7 founding members.

“We’re thrilled to welcome eClinicalWorks, HIMSS, ImageTrend, lifeIMAGE, Mana Health, MediPortal and Modernizing Medicine to our growing organization,” CommonWell Executive Director Jitin Asnaani said in a public statement. “The diversity in our membership is representative of our commitment to reach the full continuum of care and to help ensure pertinent patient information is available to patients and caregivers regardless of where care occurred.”

According to the statement, CommonWell services are operational at more than 1200 provider sites.

eClinicalWorks, meanwhile, joins athenahealth as one of two health IT companies to be members of CommonWell and early adopters of the Carequality Interoperability Framework.

“Connecting medical providers and patients is paramount to elevating health care delivery,” eCW's Tushar Malhotra added. “The work by CommonWell and its members helps move the industry forward, and we are pleased to officially become a member, joining the effort to make nationwide interoperability ubiquitous. Our immediate next steps include making the cross-vendor interoperability services available to the providers using our solutions.”
