Community Health Center Taps athenahealth EHR to Improve Patient Experience

Three healthcare organizations are preparing for upcoming EHR implementations, with athenahealth, MEDITECH Expanse, and eClinicalWorks as their respective vendors.

LCH Health and Community Services, a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Pennsylvania, has initiated an EHR implementation through vendor athenahealth to provide a cohesive patient experience across various services.

The organization delivers a wide array of community-focused primary care, dental, pediatric, women's health, and behavioral health services at three locations in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania.

“We realized that to provide the best experience for our patients and staff, we needed to be proactive in choosing a cloud-based solution with an organization that had the capabilities and expertise to help LCH Health and Community Services thrive,” said Ronan W. Gannon, CEO at LCH Health and Community Services.

“athenaOne will allow us to modernize our practice and drive better clinical and financial results, while continuing to deliver whole-patient care to our community,” Gannon continued. “Being able to deepen patient-provider relationships will create even higher-quality outcomes that are essential to our mission and service to the community.”

athenaOne provides patient engagement tools, outreach services, and an integrated telehealth solution, which LCH Health and Community Services said will improve patient access to care and boost satisfaction levels. Additionally, the system features advanced patient registration capabilities, capturing crucial Uniform Data System (UDS) data and other custom data to help meet state, local, and federal requirements.

The EHR solution also includes a dental module specifically for FQHCs, combining the system's clinical capabilities with added dental functionality.

“Federally Qualified Health Centers are vital to the communities they serve, providing high-quality care to underserved populations,” said Bret Connor, chief operating officer of athenahealth. “With more than 9,000 FQHC providers on the athenahealth network, we believe we are uniquely positioned to support the needs of LCH Health and Community Services.”

“With athenahealth’s coordinated medical and dental EHR, patients will have a more unified experience, and providers will have a more complete view of a patient’s health, leading to better outcomes.”

Brain Injury Rehabilitation Targets Patient Record Gaps with Meditech EHR Implementation

Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) has recently announced that it will begin the rollout of its MEDITECH Expanse EHR, facilitated through the MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS) platform.

CNS, which offers intensive rehabilitation and medical programs for individuals recovering from several types of brain injuries, has seven locations in California and Texas.

The EHR implementation will provide the practice with a single EHR that connects patient records across all care teams and facilities. With Expanse, CNS patients can access their EHR data in one location.

The platform also features a patient portal where patients can view their health information, sign consent forms, and fill out pre-appointment questionnaires. Patients can also update insurance details, addresses, phone numbers, and medications.

Additionally, the EHR aims to aid clinical and therapeutic decision-making by providing a more thorough view of a patient's health history, irrespective of the time or location of care. The cloud-based system enables CNS' complete clinical and maintenance teams to use mobile devices to access patient records, submit orders, and document care at any moment.

“CNS is continually investing in our technology to advance our legacy of excellence built on an integrated multidisciplinary approach,” said Michael McCracken, chief technology officer of CNS.

“That approach encompasses the physical, behavioral, cognitive, psychosocial, and self-care aspect of life post-injury therapeutic programs that treat the whole person,” said McCracken. “We are delighted to have successfully implemented MEDITECH Expanse. It provides our care teams with the latest tools to help improve the delivery of rehabilitative therapies and patient outcomes."

The EHR technology will also display real-time information for each member of a patient's care team, tailored to their specific workflows, while ensuring extensive security and compliance.

"The nature of neurological rehabilitation care delivery requires sophisticated technologies that support the many therapies and treatments needed to ensure the patient’s well-being,” said Helen Waters, executive vice president and COO of MEDITECH. “We are proud that The Centre for Neuro Skills has chosen MEDITECH to partner with, and we look forward to collaborating on their digital transformation."

Specialty Care Practice Reveals Transition to eClinicalWorks EHR

Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates announced it is implementing a cloud-based solution for clinics and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) from EHR vendor eClinicalWorks.

Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates operates two offices and one surgery center in Torrington, Connecticut. The practice specializes in diagnosing and treating spine, neck, neurosurgery, orthopedic trauma, and joint replacement. Boasting over 20 years of experience and 18 providers, Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates also provides surgical outpatient services and physical therapy.

Utilizing the provided tools, Litchfield will benefit from an integrated system that simplifies accurate and timely patient reporting, billing, and scheduling, while reducing the complexity of interfaces between different systems that can sometimes lead to reporting inaccuracies.

“After using multiple systems for tasks like patient documentation, scheduling, and billing, we knew we needed one integrated, flexible system,” said Jennifer Tobon, director of administration of Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates. “We saw how eClinicalWorks provided a one-stop solution for clinics and ASCs to accelerate their day-to-day operations — with features like pre-op, intra-op, and post-op documentation inventory management tracking, and access to patient history information — and knew it was the right fit for our practice.”
