- Users of the Epic Systems MyChart patient portal will now have access to patient-facing educational resources developed by the Mayo Clinic.

The partnership offers patients more than 18,000 pages of content on more than 4,000 c health topics.

Curious patients can look up information regarding symptoms, conditions, and diseases as well as more general life stage and healthy living information through Epic MyChart.

“Mayo Clinic delivers original, trusted health information and content based on more than 150 years of medical practice, and is one of the few content providers that is also a health care provider,” says consultant in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Associate Medical Director of Mayo Clinic Global Business Solutions Sandhya Pruthi, MD. “We are pleased to work with Epic on offering easy to access, evidence-based clinical information to patients.”

The patient-facing app offers health information in both English and Spanish through a variety of formats including articles, videos, slideshows, and expert answers. To ensure accuracy, Mayo Clinic medical experts consistently review and update the evidence-based health information in line with any developments in the field.

Well-informed, highly-engaged patients with an active role in managing their own health could lead to improved health outcomes.

“Making Mayo Clinic’s world-class health knowledge available within MyChart and MyChart Bedside can help patients understand and better manage their health and well-being,” says Epic President Carl Dvorak. “We look forward to collaborating with Mayo Clinic on this and other innovations.”

Patients can access all available Mayo Clinic health information by clicking the HL7 Infobutton or a designated keyword embedded into their chart. MyChart Bedside inpatient tablet applications for iOS and Android also offer Mayo Clinic content.

Patients will have access to Mayo Clinic health information from a variety of content areas including problem lists, health maintenance, medications, allergies, and results review.
