- HCA Healthcare has announced an EHR implementation in partnership with MEDITECH that is expected to increase interoperability across three New Hampshire hospital sites.

The implementation is currently in progress with an expected go-live next year at three locations—Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Parkland Medical Center in Derry, and Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth.

The EHR implementation is expected to help support care coordination as patients move within these HCA Healthcare locations.

HCA Healthcare has worked with the EHR vendor since 1990.

“MEDITECH is a longtime partner of HCA Healthcare, and we are excited to continue working together through their next-generation software capabilities designed to better support our hospital teams and continue to improve care,” Marty Paslick, HCA Healthcare’s chief information officer, said in a public statement.

HCA Healthcare selected CereCore, a MEDITECH READY-Certified partner, as its EHR implementation service provider.

Officials said that the system’s intuitive web-based navigation is expected to support a more intuitive and efficient user interface and greater clinician satisfaction.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with HCA Healthcare on this next chapter of their digital transformation,” noted Michelle O’Connor, MEDITECH president and CEO.

“MEDITECH is proud to provide a modern, integrated platform to address today's healthcare challenges and opportunities,” O’Connor added. “We believe Expanse will drive increased physician and nurse efficiencies and higher levels of end user satisfaction while allowing a continued focus on delivering a quality care experience, a hallmark of HCA Healthcare's overall success.”

Earlier this year, a New Hampshire-based critical access hospital (CAH) also announced an Expanse EHR implementation.

Speare Memorial Hospital, a former MEDITECH MAGIC client, declared it will make its return to the EHR vendor to replace its current EHR system after it joined a group of healthcare facilities and migrated to another EHR platform. Hospital leaders said they prioritized advanced health IT and financial responsibility, which they added made it an easy choice to tap MEDITECH again.

“We had a large cross-section of staff involved in the EHR selection process, many of whom had prior experience with MEDITECH,” Travis Boucher, chief financial officer at Speare Memorial, said in a statement.

“In the end, they were impressed by just how far MEDITECH has come with Expanse, and determined that it would best meet our current needs as well as help us adapt to evolving health care trends. We know we will be able to leverage this system to reach our future goals, using telehealth and population health,” Boucher continued.

The health system hopes to see increased interoperability with the Expanse EHR implementation. This will ideally improve patient safety, boost communication, and enhance patient care. Hospital leaders also noted the vendor’s Expanse Oncology and Labor and Delivery solutions as added benefits.
