Oracle Announces Generative AI EHR Tool for Clinical Documentation

The Oracle Clinical Digital Assistant uses generative AI to automate clinical documentation, which is set to help enhance patient-centered care.

A generative AI EHR integration from Oracle that aims to enhance clinical documentation will be available in the next 12 months.

The Oracle Clinical Digital Assistant aims to help providers use voice commands to reduce manual work and spend more time paying attention to patients.

The multimodal voice and screen-based assistant uses generative AI to automate notetaking and suggest context-aware next steps, such as ordering medications or scheduling labs and follow-up appointments. 

The digital assistant also responds to conversational voice commands to look up elements of a patient's EHR record during an appointment. The system then delivers information and images in a relevant order to help the provider gain insight into the appropriate treatment path.

"The EHR should be a provider's best ally in delivering engaging, personalized care to the patients they serve," Suhas Uliyar, senior vice president of product management at Oracle Health, said in a press release.

"By bringing comprehensive generative AI and voice-first capabilities to our EHR platforms, we are not only helping providers reduce mundane work that leads to burnout, but we are also empowering them to create better interactions with patients that establish trust, build loyalty, and deliver better outcomes," Uliyar added.

The Oracle Clinical Digital Assistant is based on the Oracle Digital Assistant platform used across multiple industries.

New capabilities available in the Oracle Digital Assistant Platform also help patients engage in their healthcare. Patients can take self-service actions, including using voice commands to schedule an appointment and receiving generative AI-driven answers to questions such as, 'What happens during a colonoscopy?'

Providers can also deliver information to patients via web chat embedded in the patient portal, such as a reminder to bring lab results to an upcoming visit. These interactions can help providers advance patient retention and reduce revenue loss by avoiding common issues, such as missed appointments.
