Pediatric Provider Taps MEDITECH Expanse EHR to Drive Interoperability

The MEDITECH Expanse EHR implementation will support interoperability of patient health data for care coordination across Bethany Children's Health Center.

Bethany Children's Health Center in Bethany, Oklahoma, will implement the MEDITECH Expanse EHR to support interoperability across its 160-bed hospital, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation services.

"MEDITECH Expanse will permit us to have a single, integrated, enterprise-wide solution that will dramatically improve our care delivery to all patients," Michael Johnson, Bethany CMO, said in a press release. "By offering a technically sophisticated, customizable, and user-friendly solution, our staff will be able to devote more time to doing what we're called to do – maximizing the potential of every child."

Bethany Children's offers pediatric care, including outpatient services, transitional care, rehabilitation, and complex care, so leaders sought an EHR system that could support varying and complex needs.

Over nine months, Bethany Children's completed a workflow analysis to examine their staff's challenges.

"After having completed an evaluation of our current workflows and pain points, we were able to define 237 discrete requirements for our new EHR system," said Darrin Brannan, MD, MPH, FAAP, chief of clinical innovation at Bethany.

"The next step was to design a model patient to represent our most complex patient," Brannan said. "We used this to test the limits of the candidate EHR systems to find a reliable, optimizable, user-centric, transparent, and evolving platform. This process led us straight to MEDITECH Expanse."

The EHR implementation will also benefit patients by providing access to a centralized patient portal with access to virtual visits and remote patient monitoring solutions.

Primary Care Practice Drives EHR Optimization Through eClinicalTouch

Innova Primary Care, a full-service primary care practice serving Huntsville, AL, is using eClinicalTouch, the eClinicalWorks EHR on an iPad, to increase operational efficiencies.

"Since 2012, eClinicalWorks has met our health IT needs as we continue expanding our practice," said David Uptagrafft, CFO and director of healthcare experience at Innova Primary Care. "One of our core values is embracing new technology to drive efficiency and fuel our growth, and with the help of V12 and eClinicalTouch, we have done just that."

"We are excited to open our second location next month, and switching to eClinicalTouch is helping us by reducing costs and operational burdens," he added.

With eClinicalTouch, Innova can avoid the costly purchase and setup of hardware. Instead, physicians and medical assistants can use iPads to deploy the application.

The iPad-based application also allows providers to capture important patient data, including vitals and symptoms, while accessing a patient's comprehensive medical history.
