Urgent Care Org Expands Partnership with EHR Vendor athenahealth

MedWise Urgent Care will leverage medical coding health IT from EHR vendor athenahealth in an effort to mitigate clinician burden.

MedWise Urgent Care has announced an expanded partnership with EHR vendor athenahealth in efforts to enhance the patient experience and reduce clinician burden.

As it continues to scale its network of specialized urgent care clinics, MedWise will leverage athenaOne’s medical coding solution. Officials noted that the health IT is set to mitigate the administrative burden associated with medical coding that can contribute to delayed claim submissions.

The use of the tool is also set to improve the patient experience by freeing up clinician time to focus on delivering patient-centered care.

MedWise has used athenaOne, the EHR vendor’s cloud-based suite of healthcare products, since it opened its first urgent care clinic in 2020. MedWise has grown to nine clinics across Tulsa, OK, with several more expected to open soon.

“We are proud to partner with MedWise as it continues to grow and deliver its unique care model,” Bob Segert, chairman and chief executive officer of athenahealth, said in a public statement. “By removing much of the administrative burden from MedWise’s clinics, athenaOne equips providers and staff with the resources they need to focus on delivering superior, convenient care to their patients.”

Patrick Aguilar, chief medical officer of MedWise, noted that athenahealth has supported the healthcare organization through its launch and growth despite significant challenges during COVID-19.

“When our growth moved faster than our internal billing and coding capabilities, athenahealth stepped up to ensure we could continue to expand while also allowing our providers to focus more of their time and energy on our patients,” Aguilar said.
