InterSystems Unveils PaaS to Streamline Data Integration

In addition to streamlining data integration, the new PaaS aims to help healthcare organizations accelerate security and connectivity during cloud adoption.

InterSystems has announced the release of its HealthShare Health Connect Cloud, a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that aims to streamline data integration and interoperability between clinical systems and applications.

“Health Connect Cloud meets healthcare organizations at the intersection of the cloud and data exchange, providing them with the integration engine required to automate the secure delivery of patient data across multiple disparate systems,” Alex MacLeod, director of Healthcare Commercial Initiatives at InterSystems, said in a public statement.

Over 70 percent of healthcare organizations have adopted technologies to migrate at least some workloads into the cloud, InterSystems stated. Fear of cloud security has contributed to slower adoption of the cloud. However, Health Connect Cloud offers healthcare organizations enhanced security while providing scalability and minimizing the time to deploy the system, the press release said.

The PaaS also helps improve patient outcomes by providing healthcare organizations with enhanced data automation and management capabilities, according to InterSystems.

By managing the infrastructure for healthcare systems, the Health Connect Cloud aims to address cloud migration learning curves. This cloud transition assistance allows organizations to quickly connect distributed datasets and improve workflows across the care continuum, InterSystems stated.

In addition, the PaaS will support FHIR interactions by offering healthcare organizations resources, required translations, and intuitive tooling for custom transformations between health data representations.

The Health Connect Cloud also aims to enhance the high volumes of data sharing between several institutions to reduce sharing delays and misinformation.

InterSystems is continuously advancing its tools for better data integration. In 2020, the company partnered with Epic Systems to advance data integration for Epic users. At the time, InterSystems stated it aims to improve performance and scalability for Epic’s 2.5 million concurrent users and help process Epic’s roughly 1.8 billion database accesses per second.

In addition, Epic’s EHR system was connected with the InterSystems IRIS Data Platform to extend its patient data capabilities to customers.

With this integration, the InterSystems IRIS platform is now generally available to Epic customers.

Virtusa Corporation also collaborated with InterSystems to boost the healthcare data integration capabilities of its vLife life sciences platform.

The Virtusa vLife platform will connect with the InterSystems IRIS for Health Data Platform, allowing Virtusa customers to extend vLife’s capabilities to access patient data from EHR systems.
