WV Practice Taps Oracle Health EHR for Health Data Interoperability

The Oracle Health EHR implementation is set to support health data interoperability across Vandalia Health medical clinics for care coordination.

Months after Charleston Area Medical Center and Mon Health merged to create Vandalia Health, the health system signed a 10-year agreement to deploy Oracle Health's EHR to drive health data interoperability.

Officials said implementing a single EHR across all Vandalia medical clinics will help enhance patient and provider experiences.

"Oracle has been a critical partner in supporting our growth and helping bring our systems into alignment," Jeff Sandene, executive vice president and CFO of Vandalia Health, noted in a press release.

"As we look for improvements in our revenue cycle and workflow processes, we look forward to leveraging the next generation of Oracle Health solutions to enhance patient care and achieve our goals," Sandene added.

Part of Vandalia Health, Charleston Area Medical Center is a nonprofit regional referral center comprising six hospitals. Since transitioning to Oracle Health EHR in 2016, Charleston Area Medical Center has worked with Oracle to optimize its clinically driven revenue cycle. The organization is set to go live with RevElate, the vendor's patient accounting solution, later this year.

Mon Health directly or indirectly operates or manages six hospitals across West Virginia.

"Aligning technology across venues helps health systems such as Vandalia Health scale to new capabilities with the goal of improving patient outcomes," said Travis Dalton, executive vice president and general manager at Oracle Health.

"Oracle Health solutions put the right tools into care staff's hands, so they can improve patient care by spending more time engaging with patients and less time on administrative tasks," Dalton added.

Finger Lakes Health to Undergo $40M EHR Project

After joining the University of Rochester Medical Center system on August 1, Finger Lakes Health (FLH) will implement new EHR technology, according to reporting from Rochester Beacon.

The merger will add two hospitals to UR Medicine's eight-hospital system: Geneva General in Ontario County and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in Yates County.

Jose Acevedo MD, FLH CEO, noted that the decision to join a larger health system came down to providing access to care locally.

Acevedo said that affiliating with UR Medicine under a management service agreement has already added key services, including in-patient and out-patient dialysis care, enhanced cardiology care, and expanded telemedicine offerings.

However, fully integrating both organizations will require FLH to implement new technology. The healthcare organization, which currently leverages four EHR systems, will install two new systems compatible with UR Medicine's Epic EHR.

Mark Taubman, UR Medical Center CEO, estimates that the health IT implementation cost will be $40 million or more.

Maryland Practice Upgrades to eClinicalWorks V12 EHR

Maryland-based MedPeds has successfully implemented eClinicalWorks' V12 EHR to improve EHR usability and patient satisfaction.  

"Moving to V12 helped my personal productivity improve by 10 percent throughout the week," Seth Eaton, MD, of MedPeds, said in a public statement. "With new features, I am able to take quicker notes, access documents in a timely manner, and better communicate with patients."

"Throughout the transition from V11 to V12, eClinicalWorks provided onsite training as well as training at the national conference for additional teachings on maximizing the new software features," Eaton added. "This is a great benefit as we continue to make investments in ongoing training."

With eClinicalWorks' V12, MedPeds is set to experience improved application performance by up to 40 percent. The practice is also expected to experience enhanced EHR usability with click reducers and redesigned medication management screens to help boost patient satisfaction.

MedPeds also leverages healow TeleVisits for communication with patients from anywhere. Additionally, electronic prior authorizations help expedite approval for specific medications for timely care delivery.
